Two-Day Rifle Training Camp Set for June 18-19

Every summer since 2002, Bill Shank has conducted small-bore (.22- caliber) rifle training at the Putnam County Gun Club in Eleanor. The two-day camp for teenage boys and girls is usually scheduled over Father's Day weekend, the third weekend in June. This year, the event is set for June 18 and 19.

There is no charge for participation. Lunch is provided for the junior shooters and the adults who accompany them.

Equipment and ammunition is furnished, also free of charge.

Classes have ranged from eight boys and girls to as many as 42 beginning marksmen.

Costs are covered by businesses and individuals, Shank told Putnam Rotarians on May 31. "We also have a grant from NRA, he said.

Shank is a NRA training counselor with over 30 years of military experience on active duty and in the National Guard. …
