Hundreds of Pupils Miss out on Place at Their Chosen School

HUNDREDS of school kids missed out on a place at ALL of their secondary school choices in Manchester and Salford.

Parents are asked to list six schools in order of preference when applying for their child's place.

Yet hundreds of parents have been left without a place for their child at ANY of their chosen schools this year, new figures reveal.

In Salford, 183 Year 6 pupils missed out on all their preferred secondaries, while in Manchester 391 kids found themselves in the same situation.

Salford also had one of the highest proportions of students offered a nonpreferred school nationally at 7.5pc. Manchester was not far behind with 6.7pc.

The figures were obtained from Department for Education data.

Parents were informed of their child's secondary school place on National Offer Day in March.

Schools in Greater Manchester are already oversubscribed meaning many parents were disappointed. …
