Trams Halted for a MONTH! ; ECCLES LINE TO CLOSE AND SERVICES THROUGH ST PETER'S SQUARE SUSPENDED

TRAMS are to be stopped on both the Eccles line and through St Peter's Square for more than a MONTH.

Eccles line services will be halted for several weeks from late June, while St Peter's Square will be a no-go zone for even longer.

From June 26, services between Deansgate-Castlefield and Media City will stop until the beginning of August.

And on the same date, services through St Peter's Square will also be suspended - but until the end of August.

Metrolink has arranged for replacement buses to accept Metrolink tickets and passes.

The closures will allow for track replacements on the 16-year- old Eccles line and the completion of the St Peter's Square stop revamp, which means no north-south cross-city trams.

Tram services are expected to resume between Deansgate- Castlefield and MEDIACITYUK in early August, with the full line reopening at the end of August.

Services from Eccles and Patricroft rail stations to and from the city will operate as normal.

Peter Cushing, TfGM's Metrolink director, said: "It's a big summer of change on Metrolink as we get ready to open the new St Peter's Square tram stop and carry out essential track maintenance on the Eccles line. …
