Man Charged in Immigration Scheme

A 31-year-old Georgia man has been arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and pretending to be an immigration lawyer to defraud a Palisades Park family of more than $100,000, authorities said Wednesday.

Sung H. Lee of Buford, Ga., was arrested Tuesday, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal said in a release by his office.

Grewal said the investigation leading to Lee's arrest started in March, when the Palisades Park Police Department received a complaint from a local resident who said he had been persuaded to pay Lee $100,000 to help him and family members obtain permanent resident alien status.

A cooperative investigation conducted by the prosecutor's White Collar Crimes Unit and Palisades Park police detectives revealed that Lee had approached the complainant and identified himself as a military officer, Grewal said. …
