NEW YORK -- If only the Mets could clone Noah Syndergaard.

Then they wouldn't have to worry about their offensive shortcomings. Or worry about the Washington Nationals running away and hiding in the National League East.

Syndergaard was the remedy for what ails the Mets again Wednesday night. He pitched 8 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run in a rare laugher for the usually offensively challenged Mets, an 11-2 win that snapped their three-game losing streak.

Remember the Harvey nights of recent past, when Mets fans celebrated Matt Harvey's excellence? Well, those have been replaced by Syndergaard nights.

The hard-throwing right-hander treated this crowd of 32,117 to a dominant performance in upping his record to 7-2 and lowering his earned run average to 1.91. He struck out 11 and did not walk a batter.

After John Jaso, who had three hits, started the game with a single, Syndergaard bore down, tormenting the Pirates with his fastballs clocked near 100 mph and a slider that other pitchers would die for.

Syndergaard retired 17 consecutive Pirates, seven on strikeouts, before Jaso singled with two outs in the sixth. When Gregory Polanco followed with another single, Syndergaard was faced with his first and only challenge of the night. He responded by striking out former National League Most Valuable Player Andrew McCutchen for the second time.

"What more can you say about him?" Mets manager Terry Collins said of Syndergaard. "He's one of the best in the game."

For a change, Collins could praise his patchwork lineup. After producing only nine runs in its previous four games, the offense went off for double-digit runs and a season-high 19 hits.

Leading the way was Wilmer Flores with three hits, four runs batted in and a two-run homer. Kelly Johnson contributed three hits, two RBI and a solo homer, and Matt Reynolds included a two-run double in his three-hit performance. …
