THE Stone Roses showed they still know how to whip up a frenzy as they dripped out details of their comeback - and all they needed were some posters of a lemon.

A clever - and very sparing - use of social media helped the band to release two singles, announce and sell out two tiny shows and led to the build up to the Etihad run reaching fever pitch.

In May, Manchester record shops fuelled the first rumours of a forthcoming Stone Roses single as the band's iconic lemon logos appeared in their windows - as well as other shops in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

The motif mysteriously then appeared on digital billboards across the city, prompting frenzied speculation that the band could be about to release new music for the first time in over 20 years.

The image appeared on advertising screens off Princess Road in Whalley Range, and the Mancunian Way. …
