Jaunt App Offers Tour of Buildings

A new mobile phone app can tell users about 99 significant buildings in Pittsburgh's Downtown, North Side, Oakland and Shadyside neighborhoods.

Called Jaunt, the architectural guidebook app is debuting in Pittsburgh and is available free from Apple's App Store or on Google Play. Later this year, there will be Jaunt apps for Boston and Doha, Qatar.

Jaunt shows historic and contemporary buildings, including the Fort Pitt Blockhouse and the Tower at PNC Plaza, which opened last year on Wood Street. Users can navigate Pittsburgh through a map, a grid of building icons or lists sorted by architect, location or date of construction.

Each entry includes photographs and other images, descriptive and historical information, a list of additional reading and tags that link it to other local structures. …
