Wanton Killings Are, Sadly, Part of Our 'Business as Usual' Culture

The mass killings at the Orlando nightclub on June 12 and the earlier murder of the singer Christina Grimmie begin yet again another common cycle of emotions and events: terrible astonishment, sadness, public displays in and out of the U.S, of mourning and support of those murdered, anger at the shooter, anger at people for gun control, anger at anti-gun control people, politicians, the president and religious leaders on every media outlet expressing sorrow and the need to prevent future tragedies like this, etc.

Surprisingly, I'm not completely desensitized to the cycle of death and destruction unique to a "civilized" society here in these United States. I'm not necessarily riding a high about the Pens championship. I am genuinely sad about the killings - and also very angry with quick Facebook postings of those concerned with losing their gun "rights. …
