THIS is a big year for Anthony Gonzalez who, in 2016, is marking the 15th anniversary of forming M83. He started his dreamy synthpop band named after a galaxy far, far away (Messier 83) aged just 21 - five years after he fell in love with the experimental and limitless possibilities of the synth and determinedly started writing to pop labels in his native France with demos.

Actually, his dream came true eventually when Gooom Disques scooped him up in time to put out his sophomore release Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts (major label subsidiary Mute eventually came calling in 2005 to put out his selftitled 2001 debut again) - a record so drenched in critical acclaim that it regularly and justifiably appears in round ups of the best albums of the Noughties.

In 2016, then, we find the group a few line ups later and on album seven - Junk, another widely acclaimed record and inspired, so Gonzalez reports, by strange kids TV and their fluffy stars. …
