Cable failure turns out lights on North Shore

A cable failure Wednesday knocked out electricity to much of the North Shore.

The outage occurred about 2 p.m. According to firefighters who responded to an alarm on North Shore Drive that was activated by the outage, the power loss affected an area that extended from near Heinz Field to Nova Place, formerly known as Allegheny Center Mall.

Duquesne Light spokeswoman Ashlee Yingling said power was rerouted and restored to the majority of affected customers by 5 p.m.
