A MAN has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a Bolton man after knifing him in the street.

Ross Ashcroft will serve a minimum of 20 years behind bars after stabbing Carlton Alexander with a kitchen knife during a brawl last year.

Ashcroft, 31, had been among a group of people at Mr Alexander's girlfriend's home on Brightmeadow Close in Breightmet on December 13.

When Mr Alexander arrived, a fight broke out between the pair, which spilled out onto the street.

Ashcroft, of Balcary Road, Bolton, snatched a knife from the kitchen before stabbing Mr Alexander, 23, twice in the chest and once in the abdomen.

When police arrived, at around 4.15am, they found Mr Alexander with severe stab wounds in a pool of blood. He later died in hospital.

Ashcroft was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday following a lengthy trial at Manchester Crown Court. …
