A WYTHENSHAWE primary school has celebrated the opening of a brand new community hub with a summer fair, which also raised more than a Pounds 1,000.

The new centre at Button Lane Primary School was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Coun Carl Austin-Behan.

It provides a space where parents can come together - allowing them to get more involved with school life and their children's education, as well as receive training. The hub will also be made available to outside agencies.

The community hub has been created with the help of a Pounds 18,000 grant from Manchester city council's Neighbourhood Investment Fund. The grant was successfully applied for by the Friends of Button Lane and is a milestone for the group, marking the first time they have successfully applied for funding. Buoyed by their accomplishment the group will now be exploring other ways to attract money to further support the school. …
