Legislators Do Not Know What Is Best for All Unborn Babies

This past February, I had an abortion at 22 weeks after an ultrasound revealed our baby's severe fetal anomalies. My husband and I made this decision out of love and compassion for our unborn son. To give birth to a baby who would only know pain and suffering in a very short life was not life as we define it. We chose to end the pregnancy because, however difficult, it was the most merciful choice we had.

Tuesday, while still grieving the loss of my baby's life, I had to watch the Pennsylvania GOP (and 25 Democrats) vote "yes" for HB 1948, brazenly deciding that they know what is best for all unborn babies ("Bill Would Ban Abortion After 20 Weeks," June 22).

They're wrong.

While I heard many inaccuracies and gross mischaracterizations from supporters of HB 1948, one stands out. …
