Schools Await Lead Test Results in Bergenfield

BERGENFIELD -- A limited test sampling of water for lead contamination at Jefferson School showed no hazard posed to staff and students who drink it, according to results released by the district's chief administrator.

Still, said interim schools Superintendent Christopher Tully, the K-12 district's sources of drinking water would remain out of service until all of them are tested.

"Service will resume once we receive results that certify all devices are safe," Tully said in a letter to parents on June 16, the day the Jefferson School results were released. Tully said the district was waiting for an engineer representing Westchester Environmental, a Pennsylvania-based company, to conduct the comprehensive test of all sources and that bottled water would be supplied to each school in the interim. …
