Lyndhurst Woman Indicted in Girl's Assault

A Lyndhurst woman was indicted Tuesday on charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old who was a student at the Jersey City charter school where she taught second grade.

Lauren Mitchell, 33, faces 16 counts in the indictment handed down by a Bergen County grand jury, including aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and disobeying a judicial order.

Mitchell was arrested in June 2015 after an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office's Special Victims Unit and the Lyndhurst Police Department into reports from several teachers at the Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City.

The teachers told authorities in Hudson County that they believed they had observed inappropriate behavior between Mitchell and the 15- year-old girl during a class trip. …
