Englewood Offering Public Meeting with Police Officers

ENGLEWOOD -- Councilman Charles Cobb is hosting a town-hall meeting tonight with some of the city's top police officers.

"We want police to hear concerns directly from the residents," Cobb said.

Cobb said he called the meeting because members from the public repeatedly address the City Council about safety, especially in the working-class neighborhoods of the 4th Ward in the southwest quarter of the city.

"The chief complaint is that we don't have officers walking the beats," Cobb said. "We always hear that."

That complaint is most often made by Shirley Smith, a former councilwoman.

For months, she has requested a greater police presence in the 4th Ward and she wants police to walk beats so that they familiarize themselves with the neighborhoods they patrol. …
