Billboards to Encourage People to Vote

The Topeka-Shawnee County League of Women Voters, NAACP and League of United Latin American Citizens announced in a news release that they are collaborating on a first-of-its-kind project between July and September to sponsor billboards displaying messages about voting in targeted areas of East Topeka.

The three billboards will be displayed, one per month, in July, August and September, the release said.

It quoted League president Camille Nohe as saying: "Our groups are passionate about the importance of voting for the health of our great country. Voting is the foundation of democracy, so Independence Day is the perfect time to start this campaign."

The first billboard will go up this week at S.E. 6th and Lawrence and will display a message in Spanish encouraging people to vote. …
