Ill-Advised Energy Taxes Would Hurt Pa. Job Growth

Gov. Tom Wolf needs to rethink his perpetual severance tax/new energy tax push.

We won't help Pennsylvania by adding costs to the one industry that has lifted it during tough economic times and is poised to deliver tremendous growth.

Gov. Wolf, once again, is threatening to strangle the industry that can drive growth in jobs, manufacturing and general prosperity the state hasn't seen in decades. The industry is already under true pricing pressure and cost cuts that have resulted in many layoffs and a downturn in new drilling.

Adding ill-advised energy taxes at this time would be a very poor decision, one that will hurt job seekers and local communities that rely on workers to keep their coffers full.

Mr. Wolf's proposed energy taxes, if enacted, would ignite a chain reaction, one that will hurt workers, gas companies, service companies, local communities and onward. It's a loser all the way down.

How can it be said that an industry that has paid more than $1 billion in local impact fees is not "paying its fair share"? …
