Will Myers, 87, Longtime Men's Soccer Coach at Wpu

Will Myers, who coached the William Paterson College men's soccer team to acclaim and served as the school's athletic director, died Monday at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital in Wayne.

He was 87 and lived in Wayne.

Mr. Myers developed his soccer skills while earning a bachelor's degree in health and physical education at Pennsylvania's Slippery Rock State College. He was William Paterson's head soccer coach for 25 years and racked up 16 winning seasons and three Eastern College Athletic Conference championships.

Under Mr. Myers, William Paterson players earned 125 all- conference honors, and he was named coach of the year in 1974, 1977 and 1981. He entered the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.

He also coached golf, directed intramurals and was athletic director from 1968 to 1972, during which time William Paterson added football and track to its sports programs. …
