yan Giggs enjoyed a phenomenally successful 29 years at Old Trafford.

RHe has played in more games and amassed more trophies than any United player in the long and storied history of the club.

He leaves following the announcement that he plans to pursue a career in management elsewhere.

It sparked a wave of tributes from former team-mates with United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward saying: "Ryan's place in the history of Manchester United is assured.

"He has been a constant presence at the club since 1987 and, during his playing days, regularly delighted crowds; first with his dazzling wing play and later with his intelligence and ability to dictate a game.

"He has tackled his coaching and management responsibilities with similar rigour and diligence.

"The experiences and discipline he developed at United will undoubtedly be a big help as he continues to learn his trade. He has all the attributes to be a terrific manager in the future.

"Everyone at the club wishes him well in his new career. He will be missed but will always be welcome at Manchester United."

May 4, 1991 United 1 City 0 Giggs' first United goal came on his full debut and settled a derby. There was an element of doubt about it, with uncertainty over whether the then 17-year-old got a touch before defender Colin Hendry did, but it went down in the record books.

September 19, 1992 Tottenham 1 United 1 One of the first sightings of Giggs' mazy dribbling skills. He galloped past Jason Cundy and Dean Austin, then took the ball wide of goalkeeper Ian Walker before finding the net from the tightest of angles.

February 5, 1994 QPR 2 United 3 Another from the scrapbook of great goals. After whipping the ball away from Ray Wilkins, Giggs embarked on a forward charge the QPR defence was unable to resist before firing left-footed past Jan Stejskal. …
