Kent Leonhardt, the Republican candidate for state agriculture commissioner, and his wife were involved in a head-on car crash over the weekend. Leonhardt, a state senator from Monongalia County, said Monday that he and his wife, Shirley, were hit on W.Va. 7 Friday when a car traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center line on a blind curve and collided with their vehicle. They were returning from a vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and were only 10 miles from their home when the accident happened.

Shirley Leonhardt has a fractured third vertebra, her husband said, but is already home from the hospital.

Kent Leonhardt was able to climb out of his vehicle, but said his wife was too sore to move and needed extra help. The Blacksville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident after someone else called 911. …
