A Greensburg man sued the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, alleging that he was given undesirable work assignments and ultimately fired after he complained about the use of racial slurs at the agency's Adamsburg Stock Pile.

Nicholas Carpellotti was a transportation equipment operator at the stockpile from 2004 through 2014, according to the complaint filed last week in U.S. District Court. Mr. Carpellotti, who is white, "found the workplace racism offensive, distracting and disruptive," according to the complaint.

Starting in 2010, he confronted a foreman and a manager about their use of racial epithets in their discussions of an African-American employee, according to the complaint. His complaints ultimately resulted in the discharge of one other employee, the lawsuit contends. …
