MU Center to Study Yeager Airport's Economic Impact

Marshall University's Center for Business and Economic Research has begun a study to determine how much Charleston's Yeager Airport benefits the state and regional economy through its airline passenger terminal, general aviation facility and the presence of the Air National Guard's 130th Airlift Wing. The board of directors of the Charleston Area Alliance voted last month to authorize and pay for the $30,000 study, for which data collection began on July 1. Yeager Airport and the Kanawha County Commission are cooperating in the effort.

"This data will allow us to assess the economic landscape compared to the study completed in 2005 on the National Guard base in reaction to the Base Closure and Realignment Commission's study, which initially recommended closing Yeager's the Air National Guard base, said Matthew Ballard, president and CEO of the Charleston Area Alliance. …
