Where War Finds Its Place ; Eerie Photos Show Scenes of Conflict

IN the week of Chilcot, there's a special resonance about Shreepad Joglekar's series Non-Places Of Intelligence at the Portico library, in Manchester city centre.

US-based Indian photographer Joglekar records military 'Live Fire Villages' - training facilities constructed to simulate actual conflict sites in the Middle East.

Their purpose is to help army personnel prepare for deployment and the compounds reveal enlightening and at times disturbing information about the strategies and perspectives of the forces and the tasks with which they're charged.

They carry an eeriness that may say more about the horrors of war than the bombastic sideshow of conflict, and many of the images seem to depict macabre monuments forever frozen in time.

Has their purpose been served? Will they ever? …
