Alex Rodriguez was on the bench again Thursday, for the sixth time in the Yankees' past seven games. Three of those were interleague games at San Diego without use of the designated hitter. The rest of A-Rod's non-starts were all against right-handed pitching, and it's possible that Rodriguez might be a pinch-hitter all weekend with the Indians due to start three more right-handers this series.

Manager Joe Girardi said he'd go day by day with his lineup decisions. Carlos Beltran served as Thursday's DH, with Rob Refsnyder starting in right field.

"I want to try to keep Carlos in the lineup as much as possible," Girardi said.

Beltran returned to the lineup Monday, after missing five starts due to a tight right hamstring. "But we're not out of the woods yet," Girardi said. …
