What can "we the people" possibly say to persuade the senators who voted recently against expanding background checks - even voted against preventing those on the terror watch list from buying guns - to side with the 90 percent of us who want commonsense gun safety legislation?

Perhaps if we tell them that in the three and a half years since the Sandy Hook tragedy there have been at least 1,002 mass shootings in which at least 1,135 people were killed and another 3,953 wounded (according to Vox.com, citing the Gun Violence Archive)? Or if we tell them there have been another 188 shootings on school campuses (Everytown for Gun Safety)? Maybe if we remind them that on average 33 Americans are murdered with guns every day (Everytown Research)? And that almost 6.6 million guns are sold every year at gun shows and by unlicensed sellers where no background check is required. …
