URVIVAL expert and all-round adventurer Ray Mears may be wildly enthusiastic about his travels, but he doesn't need to shout about it.

SCool and calm, there is no hysterical Bear Grylls-esque shouting at the top of his lungs, or sudden leaping off cliffs or out of planes.

He lets the dramatic scenery speak for itself, and in this latest escapade, it's all surprisingly close to home.

Most of us Brits probably picture the Eiffel Tower or a bustling cafe overflowing with croissants when we think of France, but Ray wants to show us the rural, untamed side of the country.

"I've tried to get ITV to make a series in France for four years," he explains. "France is a stunning country and has many things in abundance that we would consider rarities."

Indeed, the series will see him explore everything from the coastal waters of Brittany, to the chestnut forests of the Cevnnes, and the caves and gorges of the Ardeche. …
