Outdoor Displays Face Change in Wyckoff

Wyckoff -- The Township Committee has introduced a change to the outdoor display ordinance it adopted in November, now seeking to require written permission from the committee to display merchandise outdoors for special sales.

The outdoor sales of live plants, seasonal merchandise and other special sale merchandise were approved in November. Previously, outside sales were prohibited, except by non-profit groups and nurseries.

The ordinance, introduced on June 21, will be subjected to public hearing on Aug. 2.

Mayor Kevin Rooney said the change was precipitated because Stop & Shop is not following the current ordinance.

"This is a tough thing to regulate," he said. "It was the second time we noticed there was too much stuff outside, so they were summoned."

Rooney said Stop & Shop was sent a letter regarding the failure to follow the ordinance but did not respond. …
