RAMSEY -- Borough officials say they have reopened communication with NJ Transit on safety options at the Main Street crossing after the death of a 27-year-old resident in early June.

Police Chief Bryan Gurney said he spoke with an NJ Transit administrator after the June 9 incident to review newer safety measures -- such as installing loudspeakers -- that might help prevent accidents at the crossing.

Thomas Ryan was struck by an NJ Transit train near the Ramsey Main Street crossing early June 9, as he apparently was trying to catch a ride to work in New York City. Friends said Ryan was taking a train earlier than usual that morning and may have rushed to catch it.

NJ Transit investigators are still awaiting toxicology reports, but Gurney said all signs point to the death being accidental. …
