Nixon Responds to Bloodshed Here and across the Country by Canceling European Trip

JEFFERSON CITY * Gov. Jay Nixon responded on Sunday to the bloodshed that has shaken the nation and state by canceling his participation in a trade mission to Europe.

The governor was scheduled to depart Tuesday for the United Kingdom, Ireland and Switzerland.

The announcement that he would not be joining a delegation of business, economic and elected leaders in Europe follows the shooting of police officer Michael Flamion, critically wounded by a motorist during a traffic stop Friday morning in Ballwin.

Police charged A ntonio Taylor, 31, of St. Louis in connection with the shooting. The accused is housed in the St. Louis County jail on $500,000 bail, charged with first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Flamion remained on Sunday in critical but stable condition at Mercy Hospital St. …
