The Gun Lobby Proffers Specious Arguments to Sell More Guns

In light of the rhetoric emanating from the gun culture lately, I am confused about so many things. They agree that dangerous people shouldn't have guns, but they want people on terrorist lists to be able to buy guns and they don't want background checks. How exactly do background checks infringe on the rights of "law-abiding citizens"?And who exactly are these law-abiding citizens? Weren't all murderers once law-abiding citizens? Every day, well- intentioned "good guys with guns" become bad guys in a regrettable moment of anger when they have run out of words.

Among the sophisms proffered by the gun culture is that bad guys will always get guns. Perhaps some determined criminals would, but why make it easy? In the meantime, countless accidental or impetuous shootings would be prevented by common-sense gun laws. And they never tire of the ludicrous assertion that people kill, not guns. Small minds are indeed numerous. One of my favorites is that they think they might have to overthrow the government. …
