Active Community Award ; Lostock College Has Taken Responsibility for Running Lostock Library

LOSTOCK College and Amanda Childs are the worthy winners of this award, having kept a community resource from disappearing in an area where more and more activities are under threat of becoming non- existent.

In January 2015, Trafford Council was forced to look at making cuts. One proposal was to closedown Lostock Library.

In discussions with the Headteacher and School Governors, Lostock College decided to take over the responsibility and costs of running the local library. This move benefitted their pupils and the community as a whole.

Lostock College staff member Amanda Childs is a qualified librarian, so she was asked to take on management of the library in conjunction with her school role. With the help of a Local Housing Trust and by asking members of the library community, volunteers were recruited. …
