Ameren Missouri to Revamp Due Date for Electricity Bills

Starting later this month, Ameren Missouri customers may notice a change to their bill: a new due date.

Beginning on July 22, bills sent out by the utility will set the due date to be the same as the date that ratepayer accounts go into delinquency. Currently, a separate delinquency date is 11 days after the due date.

The change won't extend or shorten the time that one has to pay the bill before a late payment charge is imposed. The penalty for bills reaching delinquency is an additional charge of 1.5 percent.

However, the new bill may surprise consumers who take advantage of the cushion between the due date and the delinquency date.

Ameren officials emphasized that they want customers to be aware of the change, and said the adjustment will be prominently indicated by inserts included with this month's bills. …
