Silver Lake Schools Working toward Greenhouse

The Silver Lake Board of Education voted 6-0 Wednesday for Randy Matzke to continue as president. Tracy Higinbotham was voted vice president, also 6-0.

In other news, the school district is getting closer to realizing its goal of building an outdoor learning center, the hub of which will be a greenhouse.

Silver Lake Unified School District 372 superintendent Tim Hallacy said the project will allow teachers to "tie hands-on learning opportunities to our science curriculum" at the elementary and secondary levels and to Future Farmers of America classes.

"We've had that discussion for a while," he said.

The district has been saving for the expense and applying for grants.

USD 372 administrators are working with the city of Silver Lake to determine zoning-related matters for the project. …
