FIRST NIGHT OF THE PROMS BBC2, 7.30pm and BBC4, 8.30pm WITH a celebration of David Bowie, a musical tribute to Shakespeare, a showcase for Strictly Come Dancing, and a nod to the Rio Olympics, the BBC Proms is not the stuffy classical affair some of you may fear.

Katie Derham presents the launch of the world's greatest classical music festival from the Royal Albert Hall tonight. It kicks off what promises to be a wonderfully varied treat of more than 90 concerts over eight weeks, culminating with the famous Last Night of the Proms.

Highlights this year include the Bowie Prom, honouring his incredible career and an array of South American orchestras, soloists and music (as influenced by Brazil).
