Wyckoff Looks to Ease Rule on Patios, Walks

Wyckoff -- The Township Committee has introduced an ordinance to relax the definition of "maximum impervious lot coverage," a move the township engineer says would benefit homeowners in modifying their properties.

Mayor Kevin Rooney said the intention was to expand the area of allowable impervious coverage.

"It relaxes the restriction on impervious coverage related to backyard patios, walkways and swimming pools," Township Engineer Mark DiGennaro said in an email.

Impervious coverage is defined in the ordinance as "land surface areas that do not allow rainwater to be directly absorbed by the ground."

Such surface coverage includes buildings, driveways, sidewalks, tennis courts and anything else that does not allow free drainage of water. …
