Trenton Knight claimed he didn't want to kill Darius Williams, but when the man came at him with a knife, he had no choice.

Common Pleas Judge Thomas E. Flaherty said in sentencing Knight for voluntary manslaughter, however, that self-defense doesn't quite fit when Mr. Williams was shot twice in the back.

Knight, 27, of Mount Oliver was ordered Tuesday to serve 10 to 20 years in prison for the May 16, 2015, slaying in Jefferson Hills. Judge Flaherty found him guilty in April of voluntary manslaughter and a firearms violation.

According to investigators, Mr. Williams, 40, lived at a home on Roberts Drive with his girlfriend, and when he returned there about 3:30 a.m. that day, he found Knight there with her. Knight and the woman had met a few weeks earlier and began a relationship. …
