The new Jeep Renegade Trailhawk in action... going up a white water kayak course!

IT'S the lightweight off-road vehicle that is credited with helping to win the Second World War - so any new Jeep really does have a lot to live up to.

We got to try the US manufacturer's latest offering, the new Renegade 2.0 Multijet Trailhawk 170hp 4WD 9-speed auto low range. And you are not allowed to forget that proud history as everywhere in the new car are tributes to the pastfi including a silhouette of a 1941 Willys Jeep etched into the corner of the windscreen and the proud legend 'Since 1941' embossed on the centre of the dashboard.

There's also four-wheel drive lock and speed adjustable hill descent control with as much suspension articulation as the Trailhawk Cherokee plus special bumpers to improve the approach and departure angles and skid plates to protect the underside.

Inside there's lots of room (particularly headroom) and a quality feel with a long list of standard kit including an easy to use touchscreen sat nav and infotainment system, heated front seats and steering wheel, cruise control, privacy glass, ambient lighting and a six-speaker sound system. …
