Airbnb Reports 16,100 'Hosts'

How big is Airbnb's foothold in Florida?

The San Francisco-based accommodations marketplace sought to answer that question this week, reporting it has 16,100 "hosts" who provided places for guests to stay in the state in 2015, typically earning $7,200 during the course of the year.

It reported 754,000 "inbound guests" to the state, which represented a growth rate of 149 percent year-over-year.

Closer to home, the company said the Tampa-St. Petersburg- Sarasota market had 2,300 hosts, 84,200 inbound guests and average earnings of $5,900. That was a growth rate of 162 percent. The company includes in that region Citrus, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties.

The nearby Fort Myers-Naples market (defined as Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Lee and Hendry counties) had 890 hosts earning an average of $5,740, with 23,600 inbound guests. …
