PEP Guardiola has vowed to make City fans proud in his first season at the club.

But the Catalan is now playing catch-up in his preparations for the new campaign following the cancellation of yesterday's clash with United in Beijing.

The derby was one of four games before City face Sunderland in their opening Premier League fixture on August 13. With key players like Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Raheem Sterling only just returning following extended leave due to the Euros and the Copa America, Guardiola has had precious little time to work with his squad.

Kevin de Bruyne is still to join up with City and hasn't travelled to China for their pre-season tour.

The decision to cancel the game at the Bird's Nest Stadium was due to fears over the safety of the players on a pitch that had been battered by torrential downpours in Beijing. …
