SAVING LIVES AT SEA BBC1, 9pm WE'VE all heard of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, but this compelling series shines a spotlight on the incredible work of this army of unpaid volunteers.

There are 5,000 members who could be paged at any moment during their normal day job. They immediately stop what they're doing, leap into waterproofs, jump on a boat and go and save someone's life. Tonight's episode is another tear-jerker (for the crew as well as us) with some emotional rescues.

In the remote fishing village of Oban on the west coast of Scotland, the volunteers are paged in the middle of the night because a fishing boat is sinking, having run aground in the middle of a storm. Can they haul the captain and crew to safety before it's too late? …
