Live entertainment, food, fireworks and a car show add up to another family-friendly Summerfest celebration in South Charleston. According to Bob Anderson, executive director of the South Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Summerfest 2016 will be the 20th year for the event.

The festivities start on Sunday, Aug. 14, with the United Way's "Sundae Fundae ice cream social from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mound, where visitors can enjoy free ice cream and carnival games.

Summerfest gets underway again at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, with a concert featuring The Esquires. Summerfest continues nightly through Friday, Aug. 19 and all day on Saturday, Aug. 20. All Summerfest activities will happen "Around the Mound in South Charleston.

"With all the bands, we have a real big lineup, Anderson said.

For the first time in Summerfest history, the musical lineup includes country music. Country music performers will include West Virginia native Cody Wickline, who placed eighth on NBC's "The Voice television show. Wickline's performance is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19.

A second country music act is Taylor Made, performing from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18.

"This is the first time we've had country; we've had a lot of requests for that, Anderson said.

A highlight of Summerfest is the 15th annual Summerfest Around the Mound Car Show, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20.

For those wanting to register cars for the show, the registration fee this year is only 99 cents. Additionally, car owners in the show will be eligible for $100 cash prizes every half-hour. A total of $1,200 will be given away to car owners during the show. Owners and their cars must be present to win. Free T-shirts and dash plaques will also be given to the first 200 car owners who register.

A special attraction at the car show will be a replica of the police squad car from "The Andy Griffith Show. …
