Its an unexpected friendship of sorts, but few would be unable to guess South Charleston Police Sgt. Andrew Gordon, who is white, and Samuel Lewis, who is black, only met about a year ago. The two spend a lot of time together, laughing, looking at photos and telling stories as if they have known each other their whole lives.

Lewis is 90 years old. Hes been a firefighter, a funeral home director and school bus driver. He played in a band and served during World War II. Though born in Charleston, he lived most of his life in Columbus. He now calls South Charleston home, WSAZ-TV reported.

Of course, with age comes limitations. When Lewis had some issues, he went to the police department and talked with Gordon. The two became fast friends and since then have spent time together whenever possible. …
