RIVERDALE -- School Superintendent Vicki Pede is receiving a bonus for completing two goals the Board of Education set for her for the 2015-16 year.

The board last month approved a $6,750 bonus for Pede for completing a goal to save money, and another goal of improving communication between the district and the community. Pede earns a base salary of $135,000.

To save money, Pede worked on creating an in-district program for students with disabilities. She said about 10 students are sent to other districts with specialized programs, which saddles Riverdale with the added costs of tuition and transportation. Pede said the district was spending around $60,000 in tuition per student.
