COUNCIL bosses are meeting the family of comedy legend Victoria Wood over plans for a memorial statue in Bury.

The BAFTA award-winning comic, who was born in Prestwich, died in April following a 'short but brave' battle with cancer. Ss he was 62.

Victoria's brother, Chris Foote-Wood, has launched a crowdfunding appeal on the Just Giving website for Pounds 20,000 for a statue in her hometown.

The leader of Bury council, Rishi Shori, has revealed he would be discussing the proposal this week with Mr Foote-Wood.

Coun Shori called Victoria a 'great and much-loved entertainer', although it's understood that no firm plans have been drawn up as yet.

He said: "Chris is looking at crowdfunding the money needed and has expressed a wish to have a memorial installed in the centre of Bury. I'm happy to do what we can, including involving our town centre partners in making this happen. …
