Prolific Graffiti Writer Held for Court Faces 40 New Charges of Criminal Mischief

A Highland Park man who has served jail time for his graffiti was held for court Thursday on 40 charges of criminal mischief in connection with more of the same.

Daniel Montano, 30, who served a 2- to 5-year prison term for the earlier graffiti work, faces another trial in Common Pleas Court following Thursday's ruling by District Judge Kevin Cooper Jr. at City Court, Downtown.

Pittsburgh police Detective Alphonso Sloan testified that he recognized Mr. Montano's graffiti "style" about a year ago on buildings primarily in the city's East End.

"He has a pretty distinct style of graffiti," the officer said.

The case is being prosecuted by Allegheny County assistant district attorney Finn Skovdal. The defense attorney is Marco Attisano.

Mr. Attisano argued during the 45-minute proceeding that the evidence against his client is circumstantial. …
