Man Accused of Stealing Wages

A 51-year-old Mahwah man is accused of defrauding nine employees out of more than $82,000 in wages for their time spent on several public works projects in Rockland County, N.Y.

Christopher Greco faces up to seven years in state prison if he is convicted, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said in a statement. His next court appearance is Aug. 23.

Greco allegedly failed to pay the "legally required prevailing wages" for at least nine construction workers, Zugibe said.

The employees had worked on several tree jobs for five different Rockland County departments. Greco's companies are Cross County Landscape and Tree Service Inc. and Rockland Tree Service.

Authorities allege that Greco pocketed a portion of the money he was paid by Rockland County instead of dispersing it to the workers. …
