Police Recover Some Items Stolen from Cars Mayor's Family among Victims

Sewickley Heights police have arrested a man suspected of stealing from at least a half-dozen cars in the community, including from in front of the mayor's home, according to Chief Herbert Ford.

Chief Ford said his department had received reports of thefts from several vehicles belonging to Sewickley Heights residents.

Police were able to track down a suspect after he used stolen credit cards to make purchases at two Walmarts in nearby townships.

The credit cards, among a number of other items, were stolen from cars parked in front of the house of the borough's mayor, John Oliver. Mr. Oliver said he was having a large family gathering at his home on July 22 when several items, including a wallet and camera, sunglasses and binoculars were stolen from family members' vehicles.

With the help of state police and departments in neighboring municipalities, Sewickley Heights police were able to track down the suspect using surveillance footage from the Walmarts where he had used the stolen credit cards. …
