Man Flees Traffic Stop by Running into Traffic on I-279

A Pittsburgh man fleeing a traffic stop Friday on the North Side ran onto Interstate 279 and was sideswiped by a passing vehicle before being taken into custody, according to Allegheny County Police.

Police said officers found heroin and cocaine on the man, identified as Darren Rasimczyk, 50, of the East End.

The incident began at 9:09 a.m. Friday, when a county police officer identified as Jason Binder tried to pull a vehicle over on East Street near Hazlett Street in the Northview Heights neighborhood for failing to signal a left turn, according to police.

The vehicle stopped, but Rasimczyk, who was a passenger, jumped out and ran, police said. He fled across southbound I-279 and an HOV lane, trailed by the officer.

Rasimczyk kept running after being struck by a vehicle. …
