Just Pups in Missouri Holding Auction Today

Article excerpt

The Just Pups kennel in Missouri, registered to embattled pet store owner Vincent LoSacco, is expected to auction more than 450 dogs this morning, sparking outrage from North Jersey animal rights activists who hoped to have the sale canceled.

The "total kennel dispersal" is being held at the Sullivan County Fairgrounds in Milan, Mo., beginning at 9 a.m., according to a flier advertising the auction. The event is being organized by Missouri- based Southwest Auction Service.

More than 90 percent of the dogs scheduled for the auction "have been raised on the property and hand-selected for superior quality and no genetic faults," according to the flier. The advertisement also said "all moms with puppies" will be sold at 11 a.m. during the auction.

LoSacco, who faced public scrutiny in April after more than 60 dogs were found inside a transport van overnight behind his Just Pups store in Paramus, previously confirmed to The Record that he transported the animals from his breeding operation n Missouri.

Bob Hughes, a co-owner of the auction company, said on Friday that he never worked directly with LoSacco during the planning of the auction. Instead, Hughes said he worked with Randy and Kandy Hale, and Kandy Hale is the registered agent for the Missouri operation, according to an application filed with the state of Missouri. The auction was planned in three weeks, he said.

That registration application states Just Pups registered as a foreign limited liability company in Missouri on April 15, 2015.

"The Hales are liquidating their kennels because the stores they were working with went out of business," Hughes said by telephone on Friday. Hughes, who said he was unaware of the allegations made against LoSacco in New Jersey, said the auction will be a "complete dispersal of the kennel and then it will be closed."

A message left at a number listed for the Hales on the flier that advertised the auction was not returned. …
